Reporting Platforms

Modern reporting systems serve to analyze, consolidate and provide a steadily increasing volume of data requiring due consideration of the statutory storage regulations. Based on index figures, daily information etc., further analyses and reports have to be generated for the purpose of deriving possible chances and risks for concrete actions. This, in turn, demands high levels of availability, performance and scalability.

Integration

Due to an increasingly volatile and complex business environment, processing, quality control and storage of data are becoming more and more important design criteria of an efficient reporting platform. In many cases, the required information is structured in such ways that it cannot be incorporated directly into the generation process of the desired reports. Commercial (Actuate, JReport, etc.) or open source (e.g. BIRT)

products are frequently used for the actual report generation.

Report Management

Aside from generating predefined reports, the platform must provide a simple and efficient method for the user to define custom-made reports, create execution plans, and monitor the report generation process. Another important aspect of the platform is the distribution of reports within the company and among its customers. Access control must be handled by a sophisticated authorization system, capable of granting access to specified data views, execution plans and report generation orders to individual users or specified user groups.

Archiving

Legal regulations force companies to preserve reports over different periods of time. Therefore, existing archival systems must often be adjusted or extended to be consistent with these regulations.
